Started as a 2 out of 5, ended up at a 4 out of 5. So much better in the end. We booked through Hotels.com and as premium members should have been offered an upgrade and 20% off food. Neither was offered and when I pointed it out to the hotel, they did refund me the 20% off food but were unable to upgrade. We were given room 621 which has to be the noisiest room in the entire hotel, right above the huge intersection of two very busy dual carriage ways. I asked to change but was told at first that it was the only one with two single beds, all the others were made as double, and that I should have specified I wanted a quiet room. I do not feel that there should have been a need to specify a "quiet room". I don't think people go to hotels asking for a noisy room or a party room! We did try to stay in the original room but the noise was so bad that we went back downstairs and told the hotel that we would separate the beds ourselves and make the beds ourselves. The did find us a quiet room (there was plenty) and the front desk manager made the beds. The rooms was much much quieter if it wasn't for the squeakiest bed I 've ever slept in. It was actually quite comical. The pillows were very thin and had been washed so a lot of hard little balls inside , not the most comfortable. On the plus: A very nice breakfast and staff at the front desk and at breakfast this morning were very nice. One advice: When you have plenty of rooms left, why not start with giving "quiet rooms" first?

Lovely place to have as a base for a university reunion - great bar to come back to after dining out, excellent value for money, able to check in on Saturday early, and they automatically have late check out on a Sunday till 3pm. Message them in advance for the discount code for 40% off at the Q-Park 5 mins walk away.

The staff were friendly, but the hotel was a major disappointment. The entire place felt grubby, the corridors stank of stale cigarette smoke, and the rooms felt like outdated student halls. There were stains, mould, and even a huge, unaddressed crack in my room's window. My colleagues were much the same. If you're over 6ft, skip the basement gym as the ceilings are too low to use the machines safely. The online photos and positive reviews are completely misleading. Easily the worst place I've stayed in a while; we wished we had just stayed at the Travelodge next door.
