We stayed at the Palmer House on marathon weekend. The hotel is a great location in the downtown loop and is an easy one-block walk to the train from OHare. This is an old hotel with a beautiful lobby. Rooms are clean but our bathroom was dated and could use some re-tiling in the shower. The gym is AWESOME - every amenity you could want for a hotel workout facility. Our stay was complicated by a union strike of hotel staff, so there were no housekeepers available for daily room cleans, and there were picketers outside the hotel. The remaining staff did an awesome job keeping up with a difficult situation on one of the busiest hotel weekends of the year in Chicago.

When we came early, they placed us in a single bed room. Weird for me and my sister to share a bed. Room was tiny and didn’t feel clean.

Being in downtown Chicago, I was unsure if there would be room to pull my car up to check in, but valet made sure i could keep my car there until i checked in. This hotel is massive, & the separate elevators for certain floors took a second to adjust to, but were fast once i got on. The room was beautiful and all i could ask for. There is so much history in this hotel & i could have wandered for hours, but the city awaited me. This hotel is within walking distance of so many restaurants, shops, landmarks, and well worth the stay. This was where i began my Route 66 trip, and I was very happy i chose this hotel.

Beautiful, historic hotel in the heart of downtown. Excellent location, helpful staff, and absolutely gorgeous lobby. Rooms were a bit smaller than expected, not a lot of surfaces or shelves to put things, and pillows were a little flat--but overall, a very nice hotel and a lovely stay was had. We enjoyed having a drink in the stunning lobby bar both nights, and the location made for some easy sightseeing.
