A very pleasant stay. The hotel is a beautiful historical building and very close to a subway station that sits on multiple lines, and the room was very clear. The hotel was awesome with lots of tasty options ranging from Japanese, Chinese and Weatern food. The staff were very friendly and helpful, too! Will stay again.

Excellent location - short walk to shopping streets and shopping malls. Lots of food options in the area. Although the rooms are dated, they are super clean. Only down side is the hotel is currently undergoing renovation so you may hear drilling and hacking noises during daytime.

The Okura Garden Hotel Shanghai has an impressive exterior and a beautiful garden. The property is clean, and its convenient location makes it a good base for exploring the city. Unfortunately, the room experience—particularly for a Presidential Suite—did not live up to the Okura name or the category of accommodation. The interior felt more like an upscale Chinese hotel from 20–30 years ago than an Okura property. The room still had a DVD player and an Ethernet cable, which was a nice nostalgic touch but not particularly useful today. Meanwhile, there were not enough conveniently located electrical outlets for modern devices. Several basic details were also surprisingly overlooked. Only three 500 ml bottles of water were provided in the Presidential Suite. Although the room had a Nespresso machine, the limited water supply meant that guests effectively had to choose between using their drinking water to make coffee or not using the machine at all. There was also no shampoo, conditioner, or body wash in the room. Inside the shower, the only place for toiletries was a small soap dish, with no shelf or other practical storage. The hotel’s exterior, garden, cleanliness, and location are definite strengths. However, the rooms need substantial modernization, and the amenities and attention to detail fall well below what guests would reasonably expect from the Okura brand—especially in a Presidential Suite.
