It was ok, but stayed while the Conservative election was on in Birmingham. All hotels doubled the prices. I paid £135 which was a bit too expensive for this type of hotel.

On arrival I was given my room number and directions to the room which were not clear. I ended up having to ask the health spa staff if they could direct me to the room. One of the guys there kindly took my suitcase up to the room number I had been given. I tried to get into the room and the door would not open! I went back down to the reception with my key and envelope I had been given with my key in it, which already had 2 room numbers crossed out on it, I explained i couldn’t access the room, I was asked for my name and then was given a totally different room number! Not a great start. The room was clean but went to iron some linen trousers and the iron wouldn’t work, called reception, they came with a working one. Plugged it in and the plug sockets stopped working! Called reception again, no answer, walked all the back down, one of the staff came to see what had happened, flicked the switch on the fuse board and said if it happens again just climb on a chair and flick that switch! Great health and safety! Had to do it 3 times before I could actually get 1 pair of trousers ironed! Thankfully the rest of the stay was better, food was lovely for both dinner and breakfast. Staff in the restaurant were lovely. Location is great just across the river from the centre of Stratford. Lots of parking when I arrived but car park does get busy as health club is open to locals as well.

There were high standards of cleanliness throughout this hotel but there were a couple of niggles with the room. When we tried to watch TV we couldn’t get it to switch on. A call to reception got someone to come and resolve the problem by moving the furniture in order to switch the wall plug off and on again. When we had the same problem in the morning we had to move the furniture ourselves. Also there was no cold water in the bathroom which meant the shower was too hot which made it difficult to have a proper wash.

Possibly one of the worst hotels I’ve stayed at in a while. It’s a 2-3 star at best. Went for work for one night. Room was old and a bit damp. AC had been turned off and it was so dark and old. Staff at check in was slow and unhelpful. Bartender was nice. Dinner last night was mediocre at best, service charge included but very little service given. And ladies at breakfast this am were nice but food was awful. I’m pretty sure travel lodge do a better spread. Beyond belief how you charge as much as you do for the rooms, breakfast and food considering the poor quality of it all. As I was with work I didn’t complain but if I was paying privately I’d be very disappointed. Didn’t use spa or gym.
