Hotel Santo Tomas is a great find in the heart of old San Jose. From the outside it looks like nothing special, but once you get in, you realize it has lots of charm, a super hospitable staff, and a true historic feel. It’s not a typical tourist hotel but that’s part of the charm. I really enjoyed my stay there and recommend it warmly.

The inside of the hotel was safe and clean. Beautiful woodwork throughout. It was formerly a coffee plantation owners home and has been restored as such. The pool area was really nice, with places to relax and meet up. Comfortable rooms and linens with friendly staff. 3 options for fresh cooked-to-order breakfast. Important to note though that we were told breakfast started at 7:00, but that is the time to order. One morning we were first there and did not get served until 7:45. If you have an early morning tour scheduled, plan accordingly. Important also: we did not feel safe walking around the area of the hotel after dark, and were told that by our Uber driver. We felt that way about most of San Jose. As I mentioned though, the hotel and parking area is gated. Would recommend the hotel with those things in mind. Short walk from the museums and teatro.

Friendly reception staff and comfy bed. Room fan kept us nice and cool. Decor a bit dated. Breakfast ok but nothing special.

Stay was just as advertised- from the outside you can't tell this place is an Oasis. Breakfast was great. We got to meet the owner- very nice and friendly. He gave us a tip on where to eat in Tamorindo and we ended up going there and loving it. Pool and hot tub were great. Had safe on site parking.

Very cozy with all shared balcony and the hot tub was a huge plus! A true oasis in the city!
