We were surprised to find that guests have to pay an additional fee for parking. The building is quite old, so the ventilation wasn’t great and the room felt quite stuffy. Even though it was already the end of August, the room still felt quite warm and poorly ventilated. At night, there was also quite a lot of noise coming from the hotel kitchen downstairs, which was quite disturbing. Apart from these points, the staff were all very nice and friendly.

Pool and adjoining jacquizzi was a little cool. Upset booking a double room we were given two connected single beds. Makes for uncomfortable sleep. Staff very friendly. Location close to town centre. Paying for parking (£10 per night) is not great at all.

Very dated hotel and room. Poorly lit, little ventilation, room hot. Room dark in colour and lights that did work (2 didnt) were dim and depressing. Not a USB socket in sight, didnt watch the very small and dated TV, so not sure of channel selection. Sink plug leaked, mirror light not functioning, entrance light flashing, enough to induce epileptic seizure. Hotel had 3 coach loads of tourists that night. The hotel seemed to be too geared for the regular tourist coaches and little reguard for the wishes, needs and requirements of independent travellers. Food uninspiring, low quality and served in an area that was challenging to access as there was a choke point from dining room past kitchen and restaurant reception area. To make matters worse, the hotel rinses customers booking via this site £10 to park their car. The Celtic Royal Hotel would have been nice in its heyday and maybe had I visited 30 or more years ago the facilities would have been top class. Typical of many old skool British resort towns the grand old dames of hotels are more like withering geriatrics of the hotel world, a bit like the coach party clients.

The hotel reception area and dining area were well maintained, as were the swimming facilities. However our bedroom looked really tired and dated. We were disappointed in it taking into consideration the cost of the room per night and also the other areas of the hotel. The beds were really uncomfortable and we tried to get an extra pillow each from reception but there was no answer. Don't think we would recommend to others.
