The hotel was lovely, the location was excellent. We had a view of the castle out of our window! We used the pool and it was clean and a nice temperature. The only issue we had was the heat. The hotel was incredibly hot, the windows were not easy to open and didnt open more than a couple of cms. I believe this is a wider issue around the UK not just at this hotel but thats why I rated 4/5

It required a lot of steps to access the front desk and the breakfast area. While the outside ramp was useful for the front desk, it was no help with the breakfast area. (My wife has a bad hip and needs a cane.) The location was excellent and Grassmarket Park was lovely.

We were putting a room with a skinny bathtub with a small 1/2 glass shower door. I was able to climb into the bath with great difficulty. I was mindful of the water spray but when I tried to step out the floor was flooded with water. There was a grab handle on the wall inside the tub but nothing outside and I slipped trying to climb back out. My husband has recently had a lung transplant and during the first night of our stay my husband became ill. After an ER visit he was recommended to come back to see his doctors in the US. This hotel was extremely unhelpful, refusing to even communicate with Hotels.com who had approved a refund for our second nights stay. What a sad ending to a beautiful trip through Scotland .
